re: Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon

Just finished chapter 23 of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. This game is hard And I'm playing the normal level or something. I think so anyway, I don't really remember. I'd neglected to level up my magic user, so when it came to fighting Gharnef using Starlight, I didn't have a magic user who could use C-rank magic (=_=) except Boah, who was...like, oh, I don't know...LV1. My Lena is a maxed out, promoted Bishop, but I leveled her using primarily cleric magic, and so her mage rank was a fantastically powerful E. EPIC FAIL, RIGHT THERE. And it wasn't until I'd already gotten to the chapter that I realized that all my mages were going to get SLAUGHTERED, and that even if I used Lena to beat the shit out of every single enemy in chapter 23, I still wouldn't promote my rank to C in time. In the end, I had to pull out Merric, who was a measly LV6 (which means I couldn't even promote him to Bishop,) and then he was just two hits off rank C. IT WAS INCREDIBLY RISKY, BUT IT MANAGED TO WORK SOMEHOW.
I ended up using all those upgrading items that I'd been too packrat stingy to use before; like the talisman to up Merric's resistance, and then up his magic twice, and then up his max HP by about...14. Then I had him attack everyone he could reach to level him up a couple levels before I finally found real!Gharnef and kicked the shit out of him. I found that the fake Gharnefs were easy to beat if I equipped everyone with Javelin and then just let fake!Gharnef attack them, because their counter attack could deal quite a lot of damage. It was the bishops that had Swarm that were the most annoying in this chapter, honestly. Argh, it took me 3 hours to beat it, cause I had to fight it uh.....three times total. SO MUCH FAIL RIGHT THERE.
Also, can I ask why all the good looking guys need to die in this game? This does not make my inner boy-raving girl very happy. I was really hoping I could recruit Camus back in ch20, but no, he had to die. And then I was hoping that I could recruit Michalis, but no, HE had to die too. WHY? I'm going to go sulk in a corner or something.
Trying to play Fire Emblem without a single character dying (because when a character dies, it feels like a failure and I hate failing most of all) is like... giving yourself an extra difficulty. I would be done so much earlier if I wasn't always restarting battles due to my characters dying. And especially in later chapters, when I stop fielding the useless characters because I have enough useFUL characters, so the ones that die ARE the useful, powerful ones. STOP ATTACKING THE SAME GUY ALL AT ONCE!
...Going to finish the last chapter tonight after classes and homework are done. I LOOK FORWARD TO IT.
